The cranks on this Torker were some of the first aluminum
cranks to appear on a BMXer so the technology was still new. I remember trying to do
a two pedal start with these and with all the flex it wasn't easy! Other problems
with the early aluminum cranks were...
- If you had a crash which landed your bike on it's side the
crank would usually be bent and hitting the chain stays.
- If you let the crank-arm bolt get loose on these, the hole in
the crank would round out on one ride!
It wasn't uncommon to see a bike with two different color or
brand of crank arms on it. Since we all damaged our cranks one way or another, we
would always save the good arms and hope to find someone with the other arm to make a set
or just wait until we would bend up our new set and hope it was the opposite side as
before. BOY! them were the days, hehe.
The old Shimano DX lever is nice, not as big and bulky as
todays DX line, a true two finger lever.
Original Kool Stop brake pads on this puppy! It's hard to see them in the above
photo but the pad is adheared to a anodized, circular, aluminum disc that is sloted for
cooling just in case you decided to try a bit of downhill, not really though... I guess
the slots were just for looks and to hold mud.
* NOTE: "Back In The Day" everyone referred
to parts made out of aluminum as Alloy.
example; I got a new set of Alloy cranks and now my bike is all
Alloyed out! |
