SR CR-MO Lite aka CROMO-Lite
1-Piece Tubular Crank

SR 1-Piece Crank
This is not your ordinary one piece crank, this sucka is hollow!
In an effort to try and compete with aluminum cranks and the recent tubular cro-mo 3-piece cranks, SR (Sakae Ringyo) made their 1-piece lighter by making it tubular, as in, hollow!
The diameter of these were slightly larger than standard 1-piece for added strength but I think it still wasn't enough?  I seem to remember kids tweaking these cranks but I never was brave enough to give them a try myself so I have no first hand knowledge of any breakage.

The pictured crank is a 165mm and has never been used. We've seen them as long as 185mm.
If you had went down to the shop when these came out in 1985, you would have laid down around $32.95 for these shinny 1-piecers.
I believe these were the lightest 1-piece cranks made at that time and maybe ever!
I don't know of any manufacturer still producing a crank like this so I am led to believe that it didn't hold up to well.  Maybe with today's manufacturing skills they could make a set of these that would last?

Joseph Isip writes us with this comment:

"I have used them extensively during the late 80's and I have bent quite a few...but they NEVER CRACKED!!
The only thing that broke was the small metal thing that holds the chain wheel in place-- this metal is NOT welded and CAN be broken, especially when racing."
