Thanks goes out to Marty of Australia who is known on-line as "bmxtreme" (the person, not the web site), for the photo of his Custom 1980 Team Mongoose.

You may be asking yourself, "Why would anyone want to do this to their bike"?
The answer is simple... "Cuz it's cool Dude"!
If you've ever seen the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" then you had to have seen Spigoli sporting Checkered Vans.  That movie Blew Up! the Checker craze as everyone had to have a pair of Checkered Van's slip on's but the Checker craze was already going on before the movie, it was just to underground for the mainstream to notice.
BMX'ers, Skater's and New Waver's were on top of the Checker craze way before the movie since we were just so hip to begin with!   I was wearing my Checkered Vans a year or so before the movie came out and while my Vans were cool in the BMX circles, the kids at school used to make fun of them...  after the movie they ALL were wearing them, IDIOTS!   So being too cool I had to get a pair of blue Checkered high tops just to be ahead of them, HA!  I showed them!

Highlights of Marty's bike, other than the paint scheme, would have to be the now very rare Skyway Graphite Tuff-Wheels, the Australian made number plate, the sweet Shimano DX brake lever and the Original platform pedal... the Shimano DX.
